The effort for the renovation and reform of the country's Health Department resulted in the formation of the first Medical equipment exhibition idea. The first International Medical and Pharmaceutical equipment exhibition named, Iran Med 1987 held in one or two halls in International Permanent Fairground with few exhibitors. Although the holding of the exhibition coincide with the doleful passing away of Imam Khomeini(r.e), the inquiry from Leadership Office obliged the Iranian International Exhibitors Company (IIEC) to hold the exhibition to respect several foreign guests and the exhibition opened with just a few hours delay on 4th June. Thousands of chemical and explosive invalids, worn out medical equipment and hospitals, and unjust prohibitions, encouraged the officials to think of a remedy in a short time and the motive of renovation and settling down the medical system of the country lead persons in charges to think of the international transactions. On the other hand, youth manufacturers, achieving national glories in producing certain medical equipment by their effort and self esteem, needed the opportunity to present their products to flourish and to reach the quantitative and qualitative advancement of their products in the competition with foreigners day by day. Since then the exhibition had been held every other years on June. Afterwards the manufacturer undertook the management and execution of the medical production department in 7th Iran Med exhibition and could open an exhibition of domestic products in hall No.35 and introduce the manufacturers specifically. Since then the Association of Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical and Laboratory equipment Manufacturers (AMEDAL) with the thought of promoting domestic products quantitatively and qualitatively, tried to undertake the management and execution of Iran Med Exhibitions entirely and since 2003 has done it's best to fulfill it's duties so that the increase of the exhibition space for local products reached the 60 percent of the whole. The policies and efficient support of Ministry of health in Iran Med 10th to wit in 2007 lead to the new stage in the history of international Iran Med exhibition and the Laboratory department, named Iran Lab. The product's quantitative and qualitative development and also the better perception and exploiting from world modern technologies resulted in the suggestion of most of the exhibitors concerning the need of annual exhibition accompany with unity and convergence of other related exhibitions. This year in the 11th Iran Med & Iran Lab exhibition, about 600 productive, importer and maintenance companies have participated in the event in more than 20000sqm exhibition space without decrease. More than one hundred foreign guests from different worldwide countries and with the expenditure of certain exhibitors accompanied their representatives in mutual transactions with domestic manufacturers. More than 60 foreign exhibitors and 25 companies from 10 countries have participated in Iran Med independently and for the first time. The remarkable development of the domestic department indicates the proper decision adopted in annual holding of the exhibition. Reaching the aims of 4th country's developing programs including the Article 87 regarding the increase of medical and pharmaceutical equipment exports duty bound the Ministry of Health to provide at least 30 percent of foreign exchange consumptions through imports of medical equipment. Medical and pharmaceutical equipment exhibitions and specifically Iran Med International Exhibition as the most significant and greatest event in the Health Department of the country is one of the most significant and efficient commercial device to present productive accomplishments, exploit from modern technologies and improve of country's medical and pharmaceutical equipment commerce. Now what is important is the execution of the exhibition through people who firstly believe in its annual holding and secondly knows the resulted benefits of export and import that is also one of their own interests depends on the fruitful holding of the exhibition. Regarding the development of the medical equipment to 10 million dollars and the export of pharmaceutical equipment to 60 million dollars in the last year, we observe the effect of the holding of the exhibition by exhibitors. Although there is a significant difference between the said quantities and what we have foresighted in the program, the steady management and execution of the exhibition can lead to the increase in the forthcoming years. We hope to present an exhibition appropriate for the Islamic Republic of Iran and under the patronage and attempt of all related departments.
